The Diocese of Nashville Catholic Committee on Scouting (CCOS) is offering “Scouter Development: Lay Apostolate Formation for Scouting”, a special training course for Catholic Scout adult leaders, charter organization representatives, and/or parents to be held on Saturday, November 16, 2013, at the Jet Potter Service Center in Nashville from 8:30AM-4:00PM. Please Note: This course can only accommodate 35 participants - walk-on registration will not be available.
Lay apostolate formation is the process by which Catholic (Scout) leaders or parents create greater awareness of our role to"seek the kingdom of God by engaging in temporal affairs and by ordering them according to the plan of God." (Dogmatic Constitution on the Church-Lumen Gentium, 31).
We fulfill the role of the lay apostolate through our involvement in the secular realm of the (Boy/Girl) Scouts of America or other Scouting programs, giving us the opportunity to carry out the necessary task of evangelizing the secular world, particularly through our involvement with Scout adolescents. As adults, we are witnessing not only to our own faith commitment, but we are also striving to assist the Scout adolescent make a personal faith commitment through the youth Scouting programs.
The Scouter Development program is designed to help adult Scout leaders come to a better understanding of the role of religious faith in their lives. Through a series of guided reflections and active participation, adult Scout leaders better understand how they are called by Christ and His church to leadership, to holiness, to conversion and to worship
