Dear Friends of Boxwell,

All Scouts, parents, and volunteers understand the importance of Boxwell Reservation to the Middle Tennessee Council, Boy Scouts of America.  I fondly remember my experiences each summer with my friends and fellow Scouts from Troop 114 in Columbia, Tennessee.  Each Scout worked hard to earn merit badges, but we also experienced commitment to one another, to team building, and to living out the Scout Oath and Law. Most importantly, we all became better leaders, better Scouts, and gained an appreciation for our country and community.  Boxwell is truly the Middle Tennessee Council’s jewel along Old Hickory Lake.

This year is the 100th anniversary of the Middle Tennessee Council (MTC) and in 2021 we will celebrate 100 years of Scouting at Boxwell Reservation, with 60 years at the current location.  As part of this momentous occasion, we plan to give special recognition to those Scouts who spent time at Boxwell and then went on to serve in the U.S. military or are currently serving. Selfless service, dedication, commitment, and servant leadership are all traits of our military service members and the foundation for these leadership traits are taught at Boxwell.

I am proud to serve as the Chair of the effort to recognize our veterans.  As a Boxwell Reservation Scouting alumnus and a retired officer in the United States Army, I know well the connection between the two.  My 36 year military career, from which I retired in 2019, was set in motion by my participation as a Scout and Junior ROTC member in high school.

We need your help to identify Scouts who attended Boxwell and went on to serve in the military. If you or someone you know falls into that category, please follow the link here and click on the register button to complete the information form. Should you have any questions please contact Linda Carter, Associate Development Director for the MTC, at lcarter@mtcbsa.org or 615.463.6335.

Thank you for the many ways you support Scouting in Middle Tennessee.

Respectfully,

William B. Hickman
