MIDDLE TENNESSEE COUNCIL, BSA

PLANS RELATED TO THE COVID-19 VIRUS

COMMUNICATION # 8

September 15, 2020

Dear Middle Tennessee Council leaders and families:

We hope you and your families are doing well and continue to be safe!

We want to provide you with an update on the social distancing and wearing of masks at Scouting activities and programs. We recommend all Scouting units consult their Charter Organization about resuming meetings, whether you are using the Charter Organization’s meeting space or not. This includes, but is not limited to, meeting space availability with proper sanitizing measures in place, when meetings may begin, or when regular camping activities may resume. Ongoing conversations with the Charter Organization are critical in ensuring that units are following guidelines and procedures of the Charter Organization.

On August 28, 2020 the Governor released Executive Order No. 59. The Order states each person is urged to wear a cloth face covering in places where in close proximity to others and adhere to local decision-making concerning face covering requirements. Wearing a face covering is something every Tennessean can do to slow the spread of the virus. Additionally, Executive Order 59 urges social distancing and limit social and recreational gatherings to less than 50 while continuing to follow appropriate social distancing of six feet or more.

The Middle Tennessee Council supports the Governor’s effort and continues to encourage limiting group sizes to fifty or less and strongly encourage everyone to wear masks at all Scouting gatherings.

All units need to continue to follow the safety protocols of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), their Charter Organization and local and state guidelines where the unit meets. COVID-19 Frequently Asked Questions updated by the CDC can be found here.

The Middle Tennessee Council team of staff and volunteers are here to support and assist you in any way possible. Together we will get through this and continue to offer what we consider are the best Scouting programs, led by the best volunteer leaders, in the country.

Thank you,

Dr. John Bright Cage
